(The thing about the speed limit is that if she had simply given a friendly reminder of the speed limit, that would have been completely appropriate and all would have been fine. But instead, she disregarded our sincere apology for accidentally going a blazing 9mph, and clearly wanted to throw us out right then and there. Note that the campground was mostly empty and there were no kids anywhere in sight.)
The campground is very small and sits right alongside of US-31 on the SE side of Grand Haven. The noise from the highway is terrible all day and night long. So, if you are tent camping (or a pop-up) plan on not getting much sleep. The restrooms were relatively clean but no paper towels in either the men's or women's rest rooms to dry off your hands??? Driving into the campground is just weird...you have to go thru the backside of a car dealership to get there.
My husband is in disbelief at this point and out of habit, because he is a decent human being unlike this woman, takes her unbelievable rudeness with grace and says, "OK, have a good night," and gets back in the car. We immediately decided that we would much rather go stay at a hotel for the night than ever give this campground another cent of our money again after that encounter. And that is unfortunate because the man that works there who we've dealt with in the past was always kind and welcoming. But because of her witchy demeanor towards us, we will never give this campground our business again, and I don't think she'll be upset about that because customer service and hospitality are clearly not her forte.
Owner is disrespectful and accused us of speeding with a radar gun that he got off amazon for $15. Threatened to kick us out. Would not recommend to anyone who wants an enjoyable experience please spend your money somewhere else where the owner isn't a control freak who has such a lonely life he needs to sit and accuse people of speeding in a 5mph. By the way, the accuracy of speedometers increases with speed so at 5mph a car speedometer is not very accurate. Please never go here! There's a reason the camp isn't full on Fourth of July weeekend.
My husband and I arrived at this campground last night to camp for a night or two. We have stayed at this campground twice before and really enjoyed the experience and hospitality of the staff. However, tonight, we pulled up and found that the office was closed, so we picked up a deposit slip and began to pull out to leave for an ATM. After turning around the bend we saw the woman who works there walking to the office, so we pulled back around to the office to register. My husband got out of the car, and the woman proceeded to rudely stare at him as if he just commited some kind of crime. She doesn't ask if she can help up, only looks at him and says with disgust, "Do you have any idea how fast you were driving?" He was BARELY going 9mph (which while in the car, he had realized and slowed back down). He then kindly apologized and explained that he briefly forgot that the speed limit is 5mph but had corrected it.
The older lady that works the front desk was the most rude and unprofessional worker I have ever come across. I have never in my life been treated in such a disrespectful manner. These owners do not know how to run a business and customers should stay away. With Grand Haven being such a great location, you should not ruin your trip by visiting this bottom of the barrel campground. Weather it is the broken down trailers with collapsed roofs, the busy road within eyesight of all campsites, the lack of space provided, or the Gordon Ramsey style staff, you will have a terrible experience at Campers Paradise. STAY AWAY!
So he proceeds to ask about registration, and the owner again looks at us incredulously, rolls her eyes, gives a strained laugh of haughtiness, ignores his question, and visibly debates even letting us stay there at all after committing such an atrocious offense. She then painfully says, "You know........" (My husband and I are looking at each other at this point trying to decide if this is really happening and she's really being this awful or if we're imagining it)... "I'll let you stay, but you're gonna have to park outside the park and walk in. You're not gonna drive in my park like that! So you will park out there (pointing to the car dealership) and walk your stuff in."
Worst place ever!! Do not stay here! My sister and I went to visit our brother with my nieces to say hi and bring him ice cream. The women who owns the place came over and started yelling at us and then kick my brother out and threatened to call the sheriff on him. He had checked in about 15 mins prior she refused to give him his money back. BEWARE THIS PLACE ITS A SCAM!!!!!
